Code of Conduct

By enrolling at Jawaharlal Nehru College (JLN), each student automatically agrees to follow the rules and regulations set by the college. Every student is expected to uphold the values and standards of JLN, both on and off campus, as their behavior reflects upon the institution as a whole.

To promote a safe, respectful, and academically focused environment, the following Code of Conduct must be strictly followed. Any breach of these norms will invite disciplinary action.


1. Attendance & Academic Responsibility

  • Attendance is mandatory for all lectures, tutorials, and practicals as per the college timetable.

  • 75% attendance is the minimum requirement as per university norms. However, 100% attendance is strongly encouraged by the college.

  • Students must not loiter in the corridors, basement, canteen, or open areas during class hours.

  • Students are required to:

    • Attend all internal/home examinations.

    • Submit assignments/projects on time.

    • Follow Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) protocols.

  • The Principal, Vice Principal, Dean, Faculty, or Security Staff are authorized to question students found absent or loitering.


2. Leave of Absence

  • Any absence from class must be supported with valid prior written permission or a medical certificate (in case of emergencies).


3. Safety and Discipline

  • Wearing a helmet is compulsory for all students using two-wheelers, including pillion riders, regardless of gender.

  • Students must conduct themselves with dignity, decency, and decorum at all times.

  • Ragging is a punishable offense under law and is strictly prohibited.

  • Any kind of collection (cash or kind) without Principal’s permission is not allowed.

  • Smoking, chewing tobacco, or any intoxicants are strictly banned on campus.

  • All students must wear their official College ID Cards at all times on campus.

  • Mobile phones must be switched off during class hours.

  • Students are not permitted to invite outsiders into the college premises.


4. General Conduct

  • Keep the campus clean, green, and damage-free.

  • Damaging college property or indulging in illegal/cybercrime activities will lead to strict disciplinary action.

  • If a student is found to have an FIR lodged against them for misconduct (internal or external), they will be barred from attending classes and using college facilities until the matter is resolved.

  • JLN does not take responsibility for any outings, picnics, or external activities organized by students.


5. Events & Celebrations

  • No welcome parties for freshers are permitted, either on-campus or off-campus.

  • Birthday celebrations are strictly prohibited within classrooms or anywhere on campus.


6. College Uniform

  • The College Uniform is compulsory for all Undergraduate and Postgraduate students on all working days.

    • PG Students: White Shirt, Black Pants, Black Waistcoat (for girls), Black Shoes, and a Black Coat during winter – or the regular displayed uniform.

  • Non-compliance with uniform rules will be treated as a disciplinary issue.


Final Authority

  • The Principal of JLN holds the final authority in all matters related to student discipline and enforcement of this Code of Conduct.
